Improve your Skills during the Quarantine: Are you "GOING through it" or are you "GROWING through it"?
The Quarantine and Lockdown has affected people differently depending on how well prepared they are for the difficult times. How’s your mindset right now? Are you worried? Stressed out? Are your at peace because you have a big savings account or side hustle complementing your income?
Having a positive state of mind is pretty easy when everything is going great in your life and workplace! It's easy to have faith when you don't have worries and when you're making money!
But when times are tough, it´s time to demonstrate what you're made of! That's when you have to focus on enhancing your skill set: start training, evaluating your performance, and correcting mistakes. That´s when you start GROWING!
This story clearly depicts what I´m talking about:
"In the international Lumberjack contest, the 2 finalists had exactly one hour to cut down a gigantic tree with nothing more than their axe. When the contest started, one of the lumberjacks started right away hacking the tree non-stop. The other Lumberjack left the arena and went away to his shed. One minute the competition ended, he came back, raised his axe and with just one swift move, cut the entire tree down. Everyone was amazed and they asked how he had managed cut the tree with one strike. He said: "I spent the first 59 minutes sharpening the axe!"
The same happens in sales. Some of us are the first Lumberjack. We wake up, get to work, do the exact same thing we were taught years ago. Grind hard, almost in auto-pilot, and finish exhausted. The next day we repeat the cycle instead of training and improving; we are working harder instead of working smarter.
Why not become the second Lumberjack? Instead of just waiting for everything to return to normal, watching Netflix shows and worrying about money, why don't you do something and take advantage of all the spare or “down” time! Work on your skills, improve product knowledge, research competitors and customers. All this training will "Sharpen the axe". Repeat this strategy daily and you´ll GROW through this!
